Following three unwitting Earthling subjects, a Marketing Manager, an HR manager and an IT technician for a whole Earth year, the Observers can build up a useful picture of how terrestrial organisations function.

The book’s premise provides a new perspective on some knotty issues, ranging from the vexed question of inappropriate office furniture to the real function of the photocopier. Larger issues, such as the impact of globalisation and the problems which arise when one company is taken over by another, are also given a fresh look.
